Job Title: English and Math Tutor
Salary: £13-£13.50 per hour depending on experience
Next Step Apprenticeships was founded in 2019 and we are essentially a training provider specialising in apprenticeship training across the following industries: business, management, childcare, hospitality, and financial sectors. We are based in Brighton and work with large and SME employers, spread widely across the East and West Sussex areas.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and qualified Functional Skills English and Math Tutor to join our growing team in the heart of the city centre. This is an interesting and challenging role which involves in making a positive difference to the learning experience of apprentices. Reporting to the Quality Director, you will work alongside another Functional Skills Tutor.
Carry out initial diagnostic assessments.
Delivering Functional Skills English and Math at level's 1 and 2, via one-to-one training and group workshops in the workplace
Supporting the Skills Coaches with the overall Apprenticeship standard
Providing specialist information, advice, and support to learners
Monitoring, marking and assessing learners' work and progress
Registering learners and booking functional skill exams
Maintaining learners' records, including assessments records, plans and progress
Meeting the needs of learners with additional learning support requirements with a variety of learning differences and disabilities.
To work closely with the Skills Coaches to ensure consistency of support that builds on learners' experience, learning preferences and levels of independence and encourages learners to work independently
Familiarise and use relevant information regarding individual learners' educational needs from statements (EHCP, specialist reports etc)
To encourage supported learners to help raise their confidence and self-esteem
Create bespoke resources to engage and stretch and challenge learners
Experience of delivering L1 and L2 English and Maths Functional Skills qualifications
Previous experience within the Further Education and/private training sector
Experience in similar environment of teaching a variety of learners with different abilities and age.
Relevant experience of supporting and enabling learners with additional support needs
To be considered for this role, the successful candidate will have a teaching Qualification (PTLLS minimum)
Level 5 English language and Mathematics or equivalent – desirable
A teaching qualification (Cert Ed or PGCE) – desirable
Hold a clean UK driving license and card driver – essential
Excellent communication skills
Organised, efficient and works well with others
You will also need knowledge of Microsoft Office software and have competent keyboard and IT skills.
Knowledge of Apprenticeship courses – desirable
The successful candidate will be required to pass an Enhanced DBS check.
