As our newly appointed Outreach Worker, you will raise programme awareness in Brighton. The Outreach Worker will actively work to generate starts, including engaging and supporting our young people in their day-to-day affairs.
You will proactively pursue and maintain working relations with several external agencies to maximise participation and ensure high levels engagement. As an Outreach Worker, you will encourage independence, develop skills and help with day-to-day household tasks such as cooking and cleaning. You will guide individuals through their tenancy agreements, assist with finances and support them to attend medical/ health appointments.
This will include:
· Face-to-face participant engagement at local events/networks), acting as an 'ambassadors' to increase engagement, particularly targeting remote areas/areas with high NEETs
· Assess the appropriate level of support required for their journey towards education, training and/or employment.
· Manage a caseload of participants, providing information, advice and signposting.
· Support and move participants towards education, training and employment in line with the delivery model
· Adopt a wellbeing-first approach, providing access to wellbeing/ mental health support, boosting participant's resilience, confidence and motivation, referring into local/specialist services and Be Mindful app.
· Promote the initiative to internal and external customers
· As a Support Worker you will possess the following qualities; a friendly, empathetic and patient individual who has confidence to take lead when dealing with challenging behaviours.
· The candidate must be able to observe and complete informative written reports
· The candidate must be firm and able to communicate advice and instructions without hesitation.
· Responsible for the safety of yourself and those you are supporting during your time on shift.
· Teaching life skills and increasing independent living skills.
· Assist in preparing and serving of meals and drinks and encourage healthy balanced diet.
· Handle and monitor the placement's petty cash records as required.
· Adhere to all company policies and procedures and reporting processes
· Attend mandatory training sessions in conflict management including physical interventions, first aid, manual handling, health and safety, fire safety, food handling, infection control, child protection, mental health awareness, report writing, etc, and other training as required.
· Support and encourage young people's independence by assisting with their independent living skills, personal hygiene etc.
Ideally, you will have local knowledge of the Brighton area combined with:
* NVQ Level 3 working with Young People or working towards it/willing to work towards it
* At least 2 year experience working with young people 16+
* reliability, compassion, and empathy
* self-motivation and enthusiasm
* Current DBS certificate on the update service
* Genuine interest in working in a caring environment with young people
* Community engagement and outreach experience
* Clear written communications; strong administration and excellent IT skills
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to persuade, influence and listen to others
* Experience of planning and scheduling work
* Ability to build rapport with participants and to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
* Ability to make and maintain excellent professional relationships
* High level of attention to detail along with the ability to organise workload and prioritise to meet deadlines
* Honest, trustworthy, reliable, and flexible
* Willingness to undertake training and continue personal development
