About this client/child:
Nate (12) is a bright and charming boy who loves to be kept busy. He enjoys getting out in the community but bouncing on the trampoline and playing on a swing are his most favourite activities, as well as playing on his iPad and swimming in the family pool! Nate has dystonic cerebral palsy that causes involuntary movements in all four limbs. He can take food orally but requires support to ensure he doesn’t choke or aspirate. Additional fluids and medications are administered via PEG. Nate is non-verbal, he uses an AAC to communicate and can express yes and no clearly.
Overview of role:
Nate has a full team of support workers and therapists who cover all the hours as listed above, and he now requires a bank support worker to help cover staff annual leave and sickness. A full multi-disciplinary team of speech therapist, physiotherapist, and occupational therapist will train you to be able to support Nate with his exercises and progress in a fun, creative and playful way. Nate requires full support with personal care, assistance with meals and bath time, and support to participate in activities within and outside of his home. There are times when Nate requires 2:1 support, such as when he is in his swimming pool, so a confident swimmer is a must. This role requires a driver to enable Nate to go on outings in his fully adapted vehicle. Days and hours are: Term-time: Monday to Thursday 5.00pm to 7.30pm, Fridays 5.00pm to 10.00pm. School holiday days are 12 noon until 7.30pm. Wage is £15.00 gross per hour weekdays and £17.00 gross per hour on weekends.
Who this job would suit:
This role will suit a cheerful, caring, and proactive support worker with strong communication skills. You’ll be confident in manual handling and to administer medication and enjoy working in a family home. You’ll be a non-smoker/vaper, a confident swimmer, and experienced and confident supporting people with additional needs. This a bank position, so you will not be committed to work set shifts, but you should have good availability within the hours and days that may be required.
What’s great about this job:
This is a great opportunity to enhance your skills and support this lovely young boy. Nate and his family are a pleasure to work with and you will receive training and ongoing support from his Case Manager.
